About Hilsher’s General Store in PA

History

Originally the store was called John C. Herrold’s General Store and began about 1910, by John C. Herrold. As time went by, his son George joined him in the business. In 1973 the business was moved from the original building to its present location. In 1974 Richard and Lois Hilsher acquired the store and in 1977 the name was changed to Hilsher’s General Store.

It began as just a small general store with the bare necessities for the surrounding community of Port Trevorton. Richard and Lois, worked hard and reinvested over the years in order for the business to survive and grow in the versatile years of the 70’s and 80’s.  The two major expansions occurred in 1990 and 2007 which now brings the overall size to be about 20,000 sq.ft.

In 1994, Sam Schoeppner, their son-in-law, joined them and now Sam and Julia Schoeppner are partners in the business.
